The New England Chapter of the National Association for Surface Finishing is hosting a continuing education webinar that will touch on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s upcoming electroplating and PFAS survey.

The event on Sept. 13 features attorney Ethan Ware of Williams Mullen Law Group, who will speak on the upcoming survey the EPA is sending to over 2,000+ shops to gather information and data on chromium and PFAS use in shops.

In addition, Tony Oriti of MacDermid Enthone will discuss zinc-nickel, and Jeremy Riley of Omega Research will present best practices for process control and environmental wastewater sampling. The webinar is free to members of the NENASF chapter and $25 for non-members. It begins at 10:00 a.m. ET. To register, visit https://www.nenasf.org/product/nenasf-webinar/

An outline of the program:

Attorney Ethan Ware of Williams Mullen Law Group:

A large majority of the metal finishing community will be receiving the upcoming EPA PFAS survey this fall. The demographics will not only include chrome platers but chromate conversion coaters as well. Even if you feel that you’ve never had PFAS in any of the formulations used in your plant, you may still be asked to complete the Survey. The Survey is comprised of eight detailed sections and is seventy-one pages long. You will have sixty days from the date of receipt to complete the Survey.

Ethan Ware is a noted environmental attorney. He has devoted a great deal of time thoroughly researching the complexities of the EPA PFAS Survey and will be of invaluable assistance in accurately supplying the correct information required by the Survey. Supplying incorrect information could have long-term ramifications. Information gathered in this Survey will shape the future of Wastewater Discharge Permits for years to come.

Tony Oriti of MacDermid Enthone:

Will speak about applications for using Zinc-Nickel as an alternative to more hazardous surface coatings presently being specified and used in aerospace and defense sectors. Also, the future of this finish in the automobile sector. Tony will discuss the various advantages and pitfalls the different formulations have in both the application as well as the wastewater effluent treatment of this technology.

Jeremy Riley of Omega Research:

Will offer a presentation on Best Practices for Process control and Environmental Wastewater Sampling. Emphasis will be on possible process and regulatory reporting dangers of incorrect sampling techniques.
