Michigan Metal Coatings in Port Huron says it is planning a $4.6 million expansion of its facilities.

JayDusenberryDusenberryMMC is getting a partial seven-year tax break, as Port Huron City Council agreed to a 50% abatement for the company, which coats on parts for numerous auto customers.

MMC Vice President Jay Dusenberry says they plan to spend $2.6 million add 18,200 square feet for a new coating block for new work expected from Tesla, according to the Port Huron Times Herald.

The company purchased the property from the city in 2019 for $70,000.

“Port Huron’s been a great place for us to do business, and we had the chance to purchase through the city the three and a half acres north of us on 20th Street,” Dusenberry told the newspaper. “So, now we’re expanding into that property. We’re planning to grow here in Port Huron.”

The new addition is required to be completed within two years, putting the new facility in operation at the end of 2024.

In addition to the $2.6 million expansion, MMC plans include $2 million worth of new equipment. The tax abatement calls for the company to add at least seven jobs to the 120 current employees.

Dusenberry says they hope to have 140 employees total between the two buildings when finished.

MMC is an ISO 9001:2008 certified company with an A2LA-accredited laboratory and is a leader in the application of chromium-free, corrosion-resistant coating systems.
