Anoplate Builds Off Recent Expansion

Anoplate was founded by Milt Stevenson, Sr., in 1960 to serve a growing need among what was then a very small, locally based machine shop and tool industry.

Anoplate operates from a 104,000 square foot facility, single location in Central New York State. Anoplate offers metal finishing services nationwide including plating of copper, nickel, chromium, zinc, silver, gold, cadmium and tin, various types of anodizing of light metals, conversion coatings such as passivating and phosphating, dry film lubrication, small lot painting, and vacuum impregnation. Anoplate's reputation for quality and workmanship, diversity in process offered, and ability to meet rigid specifications has led it to serve a broad base of industries including aerospace, computers, defense, electronics, medical, optics, and recreation.

Anoplate's growth phase began in the early-70's. The firm's initial quality manual was issued in January of 1976 and growth accelerated throughout the 80's. Much of the new growth came from Fortune 500 firms and their suppliers who demanded more formalized quality systems and strict compliance with specification requirements.

As one of the largest and most respected metal finishing companies in the U.S., our 220+ employees are dedicated to the delivery of world class finishing services and products for our customers worldwide. Anoplate is proud to be NADCAP accredited and ISO 9001 certified.

Quality

Anoplate is committed to providing world class finishing services that satisfy customer expectations and requirements in a timely, cost effective and environmentally responsible manner that meets or exceeds applicable environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations. To achieve this we will listen to our customers, employees and other stakeholders, measure performance and take action to realize our objectives, minimize the impact of Company operations on the environment, continually improve the effectiveness of our management systems, and invest in our employees, community and business partnerships.

Environment

Anoplate has implemented an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) to formalize our environmental programs into a single integrated system. The Company's Environmental Policy, shown below, will be the cornerstone of the EMS, establishing the guiding principles for all Company activities. From the Policy will flow a set of objectives, targets, programs and projects and metrics to demonstrate the continuous improvement of the Company's environmental performance.

We continue to invest in capital and procedural improvements to implement new technologies and processes such as nickel-free black oxide, regenerative electroless nickel process, less toxic metal substitute chemistries, mechanical and process control upgrades, and waste management practices, aimed to improve our overall environmental performance. Anoplate has been widely recognized for environmental stewardship and its outreach to Federal, State and Local regulatory agencies and other stakeholders as an industrial partner and information resource in the development of new regulations and initiatives, participation in technical conferences, committees, training seminars and authoring articles in trade literature.

Anoplate Corporation is committed to conducting its operations in a manner that meets or exceeds applicable environmental laws and regulations and other voluntary commitments to which the Company may subscribe. Anoplate will seek methods to prevent pollution at the source, re-use materials within our own processes, and recycle materials off-site as much as possible in order to conserve valuable natural resources and raw materials, minimize the generation of wastes and the impact of Company operations on the environment. The Company will maintain an on-going and systematic review process to identify environmental impacts, establish and carry out control programs and projects, and continuously improve environmental stewardship.

Anoplate will improve its manufacturing and control systems to more efficiently produce goods and services that satisfy our customers' requirements. Anoplate will develop, document and communicate the general principles and practices of this Policy to all employees and train each employee in the specific practices related to his or her job that will promote the protection of human health and the environment.

We will strive to be a good corporate neighbor to other environmental stakeholders through involvement with training and education outreach programs as an information resource and other related activities for the public good. Anoplate will strive to manage its operations in a manner that implements these principles to continuously improve environmental results.

AnoTole

AnoTole is a breakthrough anodizing technology advanced by Anoplate to produce exacting and predictable anodizing build-up, much like that of Type 1 chromic anodize, using a sulfuric acid-based, Type II electrolyte. Typically the thickness of the coating is less than 0.0001 inch (~2.5 µm) with a nominal build-up per side of about 30 millionths of an inch.

Initially developed as an alternative to chromic acid anodize due to its environmental, worker safety and health concerns, AnoTole avoids the use of hexavalent chromium compounds in either the anodize or the sealing process.

In general, AnoTole is too thin to accept dyes or secondary coloring so it’s offered in natural, undyed color. Sealing is typically done with a trivalent conversion coating which imparts no additional coloration to the anodize but enhances durability and corrosion resistance.

Primary applications include any precise aluminum machined components where tolerances are below 0.001” and the only way parts can be anodized is with extensive masking. In many cases, the coating is so thin and results predictable that expensive masking can be minimized or altogether eliminated.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • MIL-A-8625, Type Ic (non-chromic acid anodizing alternative for Type I and Type Ib)
  • MIL-A-8625, Type IIb (Thin Sulfuric Acid Anodizing)

KEY FEATURES

  • A minimal buildup of 20-50 millionths of an inch (0.5 to 1.3 micrometers)
  • Exceeds 336-hour salt spray resistance corrosion test per ASM B117
  • Can be applied universally to most aluminum alloys
  • Hexavalent chromium-free coating (ELV, RoHS and WEEE compliant)
  • Self-limiting thickness; consistent and predictable dimensional change lot to lot.
