The Detroit Society for Coatings Technology seeks college students to submit posters for competition at the Future of Coatings Under Study show in April.

The DSCT Future of Coatings Under Study (FOCUS) committee invites university (undergraduate and graduate) students to enter a technical poster competition during the next FOCUS Conference on Thursday, April 18.

This is an annual conference held at Laurel Manor in Livonia, Michigan. The FOCUS conference returns with the theme Emerging Challenges, Sustainable Solutions. This conference is a staple for paint and coatings professionals in Southeast Michigan and beyond. and continues to highlight emerging technology, market trends, industry standards, sustainability, and other topics relevant to the field. A virtual option will also be available.

The 48th annual FOCUS conference will host experts and leaders in the automotive paint and coatings industry who will present their latest challenges and developments.  

The committee says the poster contest is an excellent opportunity to network with professionals and industry leaders. Students will be able to showcase their research efforts and accomplishments in polymers and coatings, including interior, exterior, battery, and industrial applications.”

The best posters presented are awarded monetary prizes of up to $500 each.

The conference is also calling for abstracts. Interested speakers are asked to submit an abstract (<500 words) of their suggested contribution by sending an email to call4abstracts@dsctfocus.org. With the abstract, please include the title of the talk, the name of the speaker, and the email address of the speaker. The submission deadline is January 29 and the notification of acceptance is expected on February 16. Notifications will be made to accepted presenters by February 26, 2024.

In addition to the monetary prizes, up to 10 competitors will be granted a travel award of up to $750 each to attend and present their research. The travel award will encompass the amount spent on travel and accommodation. Expense receipts must be provided to receive the travel awards. Travel awards will be granted at the conference. All selected poster presenters will need to submit a single-page pdf file of their posters no later than April 11 to news@dsctfocus.org
